This month is a proud one for our family and our clinic. My son, Andrew, will officially graduate from chiropractic college this Friday. After years of hard work, late nights, exams, and hands-on training, he has earned the title of Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.).
As both his dad and his colleague, I could not be prouder. And as someone who has been in practice for years, I thought this was the perfect time to share a little behind-the-scenes about what it really takes to become a chiropractor.
Because let me tell you, this is not a weekend certification.
There’s a myth out there that chiropractors are not “real doctors.” Let’s clear that up.
To earn a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, students like Andrew must complete:
Four years of undergraduate education, including pre-med prerequisites
Three and a half to four years of chiropractic college
Over 4,000 hours of classroom, laboratory, and clinical training
National board exams at multiple levels
Clinical internships with real patients under supervision
By the time a chiropractor earns their license, they have studied subjects such as:
Anatomy and physiology
Neurology
Radiology and imaging
Nutrition and rehabilitation
Chiropractic technique and philosophy
They must pass both national and state licensure exams.
Chiropractic care is unique because of its focus on alignment, movement, and the nervous system. Chiropractors are trained to find and correct imbalances in the spine and joints that can cause pain, limit mobility, or interfere with how the body functions.
Andrew, like all chiropractors, has learned how to:
Detect spinal misalignments (called subluxations)
Perform safe and effective adjustments
Know when to adjust and when to hold off
Support healing naturally, without drugs or surgery
As someone who has been through it myself, I can say that chiropractic school is one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences a person can go through.
It is not just about memorizing bones or practicing techniques. It is about becoming a problem solver, a good listener, and a trusted provider. It is about learning how to support the body’s natural ability to heal through movement, alignment, and intentional care.
Andrew worked hard every step of the way. His dedication and heart show in the way he treats people already.
With Andrew graduating and joining the team, we are continuing a legacy of family-centered care that is built on trust, education, and a deep belief in the body’s ability to heal.
It also means more appointment availability, fresh energy, and a second set of skilled hands ready to serve the Four States community.
If you have been thinking about chiropractic care for yourself or your child, now is a great time to come in. You will get the benefit of experience and innovation, working side by side.
To my son: I am proud of the doctor you have become and even more proud of the person you are. Welcome to the profession. I cannot wait to see the impact you will make!!
Come meet Dr. Andrew and experience our family-style chiropractic care.
